It involves a sacred ceremony with couple’s hands being placed together and bound by a ribbon or cord symbolising and confirming their union of love, acceptance and commitment to each other. THE CEREMONY
The handfasting takes place over a specially prepared sacred circle of blessed plants, flowers and special objects. These are personal to the couple, representing their love for each other and the people in their lives. The couple step into the centre of the sacred altar and are encircled by their loved ones who send their energy, love and positive intentions towards them.
The Ceremony takes the couple on a journey of connection into each other’s hearts and souls aligning them with their higher selves, the Divine and Mother Earth. The power of the elements are brought into the ceremony to bless and deepen the seal and the couples bond. The element of earth is used with a sacred object of choice such as a heart crystal, which is blessed and infused with their love. The element of fire is represented by a blessed candle that the couple light to ignite the flame of their love and passion. The element of air is represented by an object such as sacred sage infused with rose petals and used to clear and purify their past, making way for the brightest of futures.
The element of water is blessed in a sacred chalice for the couple to drink from. This opens and connects their hearts and allows the liquid elixir to flow through their bodies so their lives together can flow with ease and grace and be filled with joy and abundance. The couple then exchange words, songs and poems to express their love for each other. That love is then sealed by the couple’s hands being placed together and bound by a ribbon or cord symbolising and confirming their union of love, acceptance and commitment to each other and words from the divine are channelled through.
